Trudy Busch Valentine was born on June 1, 1957, in St. Louis, Missouri, but later moved to Colorado Springs in 1971. She grew up on a Grant farm in the family of August "Gussie" Busch, founder of the brewing company Anheuser-Busch (her father), and Gertrude Buholzee Busch (her mother) with six siblings.
