Sabrina Ionescu was born on December 6, 1997, in Walnut Creek, California to Romanian-American parents. Her father's name is Dan Ionescu, who fled communist Romania during the 1989 revolution. Liliana Blaj, her father's wife at the time, lived separately from her only husband. During the revolution, Dan thought his wife at the time would join him in the United States after a few months, but she was unable to move to the United States until 1995. During this time, Dan moved to Northern California and settled in his own limousine, in which he had several family members.
Sabrina was only three years old when she chose basketball as her spare time. She was born to her twin brother named Edward, also named Eddy, who was born just 18 minutes after Sabrina was born.
