Sergei Shoigu is a Russian personality, politician, and army general who serves as the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation. Despite this, Shoigu also served on the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS for almost 10 years. Before taking up these positions, he was the Minister of Emergency Situations from 1991-2012, and in 2012 he briefly served as the governor of the Moscow region. Recently, Shoigu was in the news of his Russia-Ukraine engagement (2022). During a meeting with British Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace, he said that Russia was not involved in any invasion of Ukraine.

Shoigu was born on May 21, 1955, and is 67 years old as of 2022. Shoigu grew up in Chadan, Tuvan Autonomous Region, from where he attended school No. 1 in the city of Kyzyl and received primary education. His father is Kuzhuget Shoygu (1921–2010) and his mother is Aleksandra Yakovlevna Shoygu (1924–2011), a Russian born in Ukraine. Shoigu graduated from the Krasnoyarsk University of Technology in 1977 as a civil engineer. Shoigu knows at least nine languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Turkish, English, and Russian.
After graduating in 1977, Shoigu briefly worked on construction projects. In 1988, Shoigu was honored with the position of a junior official in the Abakan branch, after which he was given another post for the Komsomol, which he held for the next several years. In 1990, Shoigu moved to Moscow from Siberia and was appointed deputy head of the State Committee for Architecture and Construction of the Russian Federation.
Shoigu was appointed chief of the Rescue Corps in 1991, after which he was given more responsibility and became the first person to be renamed the State Emergency Committee which eventually became the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
He briefly found himself in the spotlight and became one of the most popular military figures thanks to his practical leadership style in emergencies such as floods, earthquakes, and terrorist attacks.
Later, in 1999, Shoigu became one of the leading figures in Russia's pro-government Unity party when he was appointed party leader. Later, he was awarded the most prestigious state award in Russia, the Hero of the Russian Federation. In March 2012, Shoigu was honored with the title of the main candidate for the governor of the Moscow region.
Later, on April 5, 2012, he was elected by the Moscow Regional Duma, after which he became the 3rd Governor of the Moscow Region, taking office on May 11, 2012. In November 2012, Shoigu was appointed Minister of Defense by Putin.
In July 2014, he was charged with a criminal case because it was established that he had assisted "illegal military groups" in the Ukrainian army in eastern Ukraine. In 2018, he was reappointed to the managerial position of Medvedev's second government, and in 2020 he was appointed to the Mishustin government.
Sergei Shoigu is a happily married man who has a wife (Irina Alexandrovna Shoygu) and (currently) two adult daughters. Irina Aleksandrovna Shoigu is also a working woman who serves as president of a business tourism company called Expo-EM. In 1977, the couple gave birth to their first child (daughter) named Julia. Two years later, in 1991, the couple gave birth to a second child (a different daughter), whose name was Ksenia.
Sergei Shoigu made a great career in government positions. Shoigu achieved a lot in his government career, which he began shortly after graduating in 1977. His main source of income is the government positions he currently holds in the military.
