Darcy Kuemper was born on May 5, 1990, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan as the son of Brent Kuemper, Sharon Kuemper's police officer and accountant. Kuemper started skating at the age of three in Saskatoon, which has a large hockey community.
He decided to become a
full-time goalkeeper at the age of 10. Darcy has consistently received
compliments for her excellent work and high GPA. Darcy entered high school at
the age of 16. Upon graduating from high school, Kuemper earned a bachelor's
degree from a US government institution.
Darcy Kuemper's
goalkeeping skills were first noticed when he was a teenager playing in the
Saskatoon Contacts and Blazers of Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League
(SMAAAHL). In 2008, Kuemper and Blazers entered the SMAAAHL championship game
but were defeated by Notre Dame Hounds in five matches. Kuemper was named 45th
overall by the Spokane Chiefs in the 2005 Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam
Draft.
He had just 19 seconds
of scoring at Spokane when he sacked the first goalkeeper Dustin Tokarski at the
end of the 2007 WHL Playoffs, despite spending most of his contract time as a
WHL candidate in Saskatoon. Kuemper was sold to Red Deer Rebels on December 13,
2007, in exchange for a conditional election in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.
On February 12, 2013, Kuemper was recalled from the Wilderness. The Wild urged Kuemper to start the
following evening after reserve goalkeeper Josh Harding fell ill as a result of
complications from multiple sclerosis therapy. On February 17, Kuemper took his
first NHL victory against the Detroit Red Wings with 29 saving throws out of 31
shots. Kuemper signed a one-year contract worth $ 650,000 with Los Angeles
Kings on July 1, 2017. Kuemper excelled in supporting Kings last season,
winning 10 matches in 19 appearances.
Darcy was traded to
the Arizona Coyotes on February 21, 2018, for goalkeeper Scott Wedgewood and
winger Tobias Rieder. The Coyotes immediately re-signed Kuemper for two years,
for a $ 3.7 million extension. Kuemper was defeated by Colorado Avalanche in
the first round in 2022, conditional in the third round in 2024, and defender
Conor Timmins on July 28, 2021. During Saturday's match 3 triumph against
