the vote on March 1, 2022. Incumbent Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar and
Jessica will face each other in the late May election in Texas's 28th district as
neither candidate passed 50% in the primary race. Henry Cuellar, who has
represented the district since 2005, was recently searched by the FBI in
January for his ties to several businessmen as well as part of the Azerbaijani
investigation.
Cuellar, who came first with 48.5% of the vote overall, was behind Jessica Cisneros with 46.8% of the vote. The third representative was Tannya Benavides, an educator and first-time candidate, who received almost 4.7% of the vote. Cuellar built a strong base in Laredo and other rural areas of the district, leading him to lead the election on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
