Kristi Noem is the governor of South Dakota, and she has been relentlessly trying to reform the state since January 5, 2019. She is the 33rd governor of the state of South Dakota’s. On November 30, 1971, Kristi was born. Kristi Noem was born
in Watertown, South Dakota, to Ron and Corinne Arnold, and grew up on their
family plantation and farm in rural Hamlin County with her brothers. In March
1994, Noem’s father was killed in a farm tractor accident, a month before
Noem’s daughter, Kassidy, was born. The family estate was expanded by Noem, who
built a hunting lodge and restaurant. His brothers returned to help with the
expansion of the business. Noem won the title of South Dakota Snow Queen after
graduating from Hamlin High School in 1990.
He says the experience helped him improve his public
speaking and business skills. After graduating from high school Noem attended
Northern State University from 1990 to 1992. She married Bryon Noem in
Watertown, South Dakota, in 1992, when she was 20, after dropping out of
college. Noem studied academics at Mount Marty College in Watertown and South
Dakota State University after her father’s death, as well as online programs at
the University of South Dakota, from which she graduated in 2011.
He was a member of the Republican Party and served in the
South Dakota House of Representatives for the 6th District from 2007 to 2011.
He was a U.S. Representative. for South Dakota’s at-large congressional
district from 2011 to 2019. In 2018, Noem was elected governor. Noem was
elected to represent the South Dakota House of Representatives in 2006
(includes portions of Beadle, Clark, Codington, Hamlin, and Kingsbury counties,
but does not include Watertown). He was elected with 39% in 2006. In 2008, he
was re-elected to a second term with 41% of the vote. During the COVID-19
pandemic, household orders were imposed, as were the policies of Anthony Fauci
and Joe Biden. According to the CPAC straw poll, 4% of participants want Noem
to run for president in 2024, putting him in third place behind Trump and Ron
DeSantis.
Another poll found that if Trump doesn’t, 11 percent of
participants want him to run for president, putting him second behind DeSantis.
Noem signed S.B.124 on March 10, 2021. Proponents of the bill said it was
designed to protect churches from closure during the COVID-19 pandemic, but was
amended to be broader, leading to attacks by civil rights groups claiming it
would allow discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and minority
religions. The bill, which mirrors a 2015 law by Indiana Governor Mike Pence,
was the first religious freedom bill signed into law in six years. Noem said on
Twitter on March 8 that he would sign H.B. 1217, the Women’s Fairness in Sports
Bill, which prohibits transgender athletes from joining or competing on female
high school and college sports teams. Some opponents of the legislation worry
it will drive away businesses and state money.
Bryon Noem has been Noem’s husband since 1992. Kassidy
Noem, Booker Noem, and Kennedy Noem are their three children. Noem and her
family live in Castlewood, South Dakota, at Racota Valley Ranch. In Watertown,
South Dakota, his family joins a Foursquare Church.
She is the first female incumbent for South Dakota’s Mayor.

Noem advocated legislation against human trafficking and
slavery. He sponsored legislation in 2011 to prevent the Environmental
Protection Agency from funding stricter chemical air pollution standards. In
the first quarter of 2011, Noem was one of the top freshman Republicans in PAC
fundraising, raising $169,000 from PACs and holding at least 10 events in
Washington. Noem signed a bill into law on Jan. 31, 2019, eliminating the need
for a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Noem signed legislation in February 2021
that prohibited civil liability for certain COVID-19 exposures. Unless exposure
to COVID-19 results from gross negligence, carelessness, or willful
misconduct, the law exempts healthcare professionals and other businesses,
including personal protective equipment suppliers, from liability.
