Bob Beckel was an American known for his diverse careers, including political analyst, expert, and former political agent. Previously, he worked as an analyst and commentator for the Fox News Channel. Even so, he was a co-host of the series The Five until he was released from the channel in 2015 after spending several months in the hospital following spine surgery. After the Fox News Channel was released, Beckel began a new job at CNN. In January 2017, he returned to Fox News as co-host of The Five. But soon in May 2017, the network announced that they were releasing Beckel after they were accused of making racist comments against one of Fox News employees.

Robert Gilliland Beckel, a hard-working internet sensation, was born on November 15, 1948, in New York City. He was raised in Lyme, Connecticut by his loving and caring parents named Cambridge Graham Beckel Jr. (father) and Ellen Gilliland Beckel (mother). His father, Cambridge Graham Beckel Jr., remained the author of the famous bestseller Workshops for the World: The UN Agencies Family. Beckel was not the only one raised by his parents, he shared his childhood with his older brother Graham Beckel, who is an actor.
Beckel attended Wagner College on Staten Island and obtained a bachelor's degree. He played football in college and served in the 1968 presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy. Beckel also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines from 1971 to 1972, after which he earned his degree in politics from George Washington University.

Beckel, who last appeared on the show in February 2015, was absent after having back surgery at home. From 2005 to the end of 2015, Beckel was a USA Today columnist. He wrote and collaborated on numerous articles with one of his friends and political opponents, Cal Thomas Later in October 2015, CNN, a different media outlet, hired Beckel.
