Tom Pelphrey was born on July 28, 1982, in Howell, New Jersey, USA. He grew up in New Jersey with his parents Laurie and Richard Pelphrey. He began honing his acting skills in high school before attending FPAC at Howell High.
Tom holds a BA in Acting from Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts. He also received Shakespearean studies at the Globe Theater in London, England. Tom is also a graduate of Howell High School in 2000 and then earned his BA in Fine Arts from Rutgers University in 2004.

his first job in CBS's longtime CBS day drama Guiding Light, for which he won
